What is aciclovir 400mg (Genotropin)?

Aciclovir tablets 200mg contain the active ingredient aciclovir. This medication is used to treat the symptoms of an outbreak caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection. It is used to prevent the virus from replicating in the body. The medication is available in tablets of 400mg strength.

How does aciclovir work?

Aciclovir works by inhibiting the replication of the herpes virus in the body.

What is the most important information I should know about aciclovir?

Take aciclovir with a full glass of water. It can take some time for the medication to build up in the body and start working. Take the full course of treatment with caution. Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • You have high blood pressure
  • You have been diagnosed with kidney problems
  • You have a rare inherited eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa
  • You have diabetes
  • You have any eye problems such as glaucoma or cataracts
  • You have or have had an eye problem caused by an eye infection
  • You have any other health problems, including any of the following:
    • Hepatitis
    • Liver or kidney problems
    • Lupus
    • Kidney problems
    • Blood or blood thinner (including warfarin)
    • Liver disease
    • Heart problems
    • Heart disease
    • Low white blood cell count (anemia)
    • Peyronie's disease
    • Seizures
    • Stomach problems
    • Diabetes

    It is important to tell your doctor if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction (signs of an infection) while you are taking aciclovir:

    • hives
    • tightness in the chest
    • wheezing
    • difficulty swallowing
    • rash
    • feeling of warmth

    Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include:

    • shortness of breath
    • wheezing
    • swollen, wheezing chest
    • swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
    • shortness of the mouth

    If you notice any of these symptoms, stop taking this medication and see your doctor right away.

    If you take aciclovir to prevent the virus from replicating in the body, you are at higher risk for the virus from spreading to other parts of the body. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, or are breastfeeding, don’t take aciclovir to prevent the virus from spreading.

    What are the side effects of aciclovir?

    Like all medications, aciclovir can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. The most common side effects are:

    • Headache
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Diarrhoea
    • Flu-like symptoms
    • Back pain
    • Muscle aches
    • Runny or stuffy nose
    • Stomach aches

    If you experience any side effects that persist or become bothersome, call your doctor right away. You may need urgent medical help.

    How should I take aciclovir?

    Take aciclovir tablets 200mg on an empty stomach or with a meal to prevent the virus from building up in the body and stopping its ability to replicate. Do not take aciclovir with food.

    Do not drink alcohol while you are taking aciclovir to prevent the virus from spreading to other parts of the body.

Benefits and uses of Zovirax:

  • Doctors generally prescribe Zovirax to treat initial episodes of genital herpes and to suppress the frequent recurrence of genital herpes. It is also used to treat herpes labialis (cold sore), herpes zoster (shingles), and chickenpox.
  • Zovirax does not cure the viral disease but it reduces your symptoms and the severity of the infection. It helps to decrease pain and itching, speed up sore healing, and prevent new sore formation.
  • In people with genital herpes, Zovirax does not protect against the spread of the virus to others. You can spread the virus even if you do not have symptoms. Therefore always use an effective barrier method such as condoms or dental dams during all sexual activity.

How to use Zovirax?

If you are diagnosed with the herpes virus, start the therapy as soon as possible or at the first sign of an outbreak. Your doctor may prescribe you Zovirax tablets depending on your age and medical condition. The tablets are taken orally with or without food.

Recommended dosage:

  • For genital herpes:The initial recommended dosage is one 200mg tablet every 4 hours 5 times daily. Use it for no more than 4 days. Consult with your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 4 days.
  • For suppression of recurrent genital herpes:The initial recommended dosage is 200mg three times daily. If conditions do not improve, the dosage can be increased to five times daily.
  • For chickenpox:Not more than 800mg 4 times daily for five days. Start the therapy within 24 hours once the rash appears.
  • For herpes zoster:800mg of Zovirax every 4 hours, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days. Start the therapy within 72 hours of the onset of lesions.

Take the medication at the same times every day for maximum benefit. Do not skip any dose, or stop this medication early without consulting your doctor. Always drink enough water while taking Zovirax to prevent the chances of dehydration and kidney damage.

Side effects of Zovirax:

Patients may experience some common side effects after taking Zovirax, including:

  • Loss of appetite.
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and Vomiting.
  • Stomach pain.
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Fever

Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any serious side effects, including:

  • Kidney problems.
  • Bloody or dark urine.
  • Unusual back pain.
  • Agitation, confusion, hallucinations.

ONErection: The cream contains aciclovir as the active ingredient. The active ingredient is a synthetic glucuronide of glucuronidated by the body. It is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and colds and aciclovir tablets to treat cold sores. Aciclovir tablets belongs to the group of medicines called antiviral drugs that can help treat the infection. It is used to treat cold sores, aciclovir tablets to treat chickenpox, genital herpes, shingles, and genital herpes infection. It can also be used to prevent cold sores from recurring. Uses:

Aciclovir tablets are used to treat cold sores (herpes simplex virus infections of the lips and throat). These cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, which causes the lesions of the virus in the skin and mouth. This herpes simplex virus infection leads to a cold sore which is usually painless and is not worse than cold sore after life without the virus. The cold sore can spread to the colds and other parts of the body (genital herpes) and may heal in a few days. Treatment is not usually needed for the form of this form of the virus and the form can be easily broken up. Treatment can help to reduce symptoms such as a cold sore, blisters, fever and a pain during the cold sore. Aciclovir tablets contains the active ingredient aciclovir. This medicine is used to treat the following conditions:

As with all medicines, you may experience some side effects. Common side effects (unraviolet, rare, orPink side effects) include:

  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea

More serious side effects, including a rash, itching or hives, and swelling of the face, lips, or throat are rare but possible. In some cases, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dark coloured urine
